RRF’s Five In Five Charity Run
AN ADVENTUROUS group from RustRashFlyers (www.rustrashflyers.co.uk) is undertaking a charity run across Europe that will see them visit five countries in just five days. Their aim is to raise £5,000 for The Shakespeare Hospice (www.theshakespearehospice.org.uk), in Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire, which provides care and support for people with life limiting illnesses and their carers.
The 1000 mile trip will take place in June (starting on the 4th and returning on the 8th) and will visit France, Belgium, Holland, Luxembourg and Germany with the start and finishing point being the hospice in Stratford-upon-Avon.
RRF’s Darren Chandler, who works for the Shakespeare Hospice says: “The hospice is the lowest funded hospice in the entire country receiving only £15k from the government, the rest of the £1.4m it takes to offer all our services comes from fundraising or retail.
“We have currently raised £1300 from sponsorship but need more. The cars involved are two E36 BMW 323i SEs, one E36 BMW 325i Coupe, one VW Polo ‘Breadbin’, one Renault Clio, one Ford Sierra with a welded diff, one Triumph TC rally car (that is still being built!) and a couple more that have confirmed coming – but not in what cars!”
The run will also include certain Top Gear-esque elements, such as inappropriate presents, key swapping for changing passengers and pix with les plod. (Good luck with the last one chaps!)
Darren adds: “The point of the trip was to have some fun with like minded people, raise some seriously needed money for the Hospice and to help dispel the stereo types associated with car clubs… We are laid back, chilled, and it’s as much about the people as it the cars.”
So if you can afford it, please do support them. More information is available on RRF’s Facebook page (www.facebook.com/the5in5) and to support the cause, their sponsorship page is www.virginmoneygiving.com/5in5
