Is it wrong of me to want to modify a mk1 Toyota Prius? One drove past me today and I started having dirty, terrible thoughts about modifying one. I even looked on eBay for one this afternoon... :(

The only way to modify one is to throw burning faeces at it.

That is all.

Give it a few years and they'll be collectors items ;)

This mk1 Prius rally car was actually the first car I ever drove (around a Tesco's car park).Posted Image

I think ppc magazine bought one as a project with the intention of converting it to v8. Not sure if they still have it as I've not heard it mentioned in the mag for well over a year now.

I just don't get the whole hybrid/electric nonsense. I don't see it being the future of motoring or being that efficient.

Seriously, compressed air is the way forward:

Early days yet and they still look massively spazzy cars

...or all electric. Toyota Motorsports have just set a 7min lap of the 'ring in a glorified milk float:

thats pretty quick for a milk float, and where will they put the milk? :D  don't fancy the chances of getting the milk in one peice with driving like that :P
as for modifying a prius, apart from the obvious "why" is there much you can actually do with one.. regards ricky

No there's not a lot. I know a few years ago some American companies started tuning the electric motors on Priii's, but I don't think they really achieved much.

The Honda hybrid system is quite cool because it runs in-between the engine and gearbox, so in theory you could modify the engine separately to the hybrid system.

As for why? Just because should be enough! :)  I have more of a hankering to pro street a Mk2 pious. I think they have a nice shape. Space frame chassis, small block chev and RWD should be enough to put a smile on my face and a frown on everyone else's. There must be a few potential doners
with electrical fires going cheap??
There is a guy who was cleaning up in stage rallying with a Honda Insight.

They ran a hybrid at the LeMans 24 hour this year too, and have made a full electric one which they've been testing with good results i think! Everyone laughed at the diesel audis and peugeots.........which win it every year now! Still can't beat the rotary though ;) Hmmmmmmm 787b
Oh by the way.....Don't do it!!! The prius is a hateful looking heap of litter.

Toyota are running a full works LMP1 Hybrid entry at Le Mans next year: http://blog.toyota.c...lmp1-sports-car

Lets just hope it destroys the diesels and puts a bit of noise back into the sport! Those 'diesels' are just so dull to watch and nothing more than a complete manipulation of the ridiculous French rules.
