Typically, the week my MR2s on eBay, the alternator's stopped charging. I drove into work this morning and the voltmeter was only reading 11.5-12v and the alternator/battery warning lights were aglow. I've quickly checked for any loose connections and they seem to all be ok and I've only recently tightened the alternator belt, so that seems to be ok too.

All indicators point to alternator failure, but before I shed out £100+ for a new one, is there anything else I should check?

you could check the wiring from the alternator to the battery, but is most likely the alternator, some alternators have a voltage regulator that is easily replaced on the back of it, is sometimes a cheaper option if you can find one.. regards ricky

Thanks Ricky. I've just been out and checked the wiring and the voltage appears to be the same coming out of the alternator. I guess that means it's croked?

I've changed more than a few of these - you'll find its worn down to the spindle inside :)

Yeah a new alternator sorted it right out.
