The Rolls-Royce Works Team that took part in the 2013 Centenary Alpine Trial will be reunited at the BMW Museum’s ‘Night of the White Gloves’ event on Friday 22nd November 2013. Both cars will remain on display until the New Year.
The Works Team, comprising the original ‘James Radley’ 1913 Silver Ghost and the 2013 Alpine Trial Centenary Ghost, joined 47 vintage Rolls-Royce Silver Ghosts in June to tackle 1800 miles over some of the world’s most spectacular and challenging mountain passes. The Trial concluded in Vienna on 29th June 2013 – exactly 100 years to the day since privateer entrant, James Radley, emphatically completed the original event, helping to cement the marque’s reputation for peerless reliability and mechanical excellence.
The BMW Museum’s ‘Night of the White Gloves’ is a unique annual event. Visitors are given white gloves and encouraged to touch the exhibits to gain a first-hand impression of the design and engineering of the cars and motorcycles on display. This year’s event is particularly special as the museum is hosting the ‘Strive for Perfection’ exhibition, celebrating the 10th anniversary of the launch of the new Rolls-Royce Phantom. Fifteen of the most outstanding Rolls-Royce automobiles are displayed, from the first Silver Ghost dating back to the 1910s through to today’s Phantom and Ghost models. The history of the brand from 1904 to the present day is also presented.
The BMW Museum has welcomed almost 500,000 visitors since the ‘Strive for Perfection’ exhibition opened in March 2013. The temporary exhibition was originally planned to be open for 12 months, but has been extended to 30th October 2014 due to popular demand.
“We are delighted that the Rolls-Royce Works Team will be reunited at the BMW ‘Night of the White Gloves’ event,” said Andrew Ball, Corporate Communications Manager. “The Centenary Alpine Trial embraced the spirit of adventure of the original event 100 years ago, and visitors to the BMW Museum will now be able to see and touch these magnificent motor cars for the first time.”
The 2013 Centenary Alpine Trial was honoured last week with ‘Best Rally or Tour of the Year’ at the prestigious International Historic Motoring Awards in London. The International Historic Motoring Awards are the most coveted awards in the classic car industry, showcasing excellence, rewarding innovation and providing the benchmark by which the world of historic cars judges itself.
