“Then one day Milko, who’s very passionate about classic Citroëns, found the bodyshell of a 2CV Fourgonette which he bought for a few Euros. When the 2CV was brought back to our factory it was placed next to the Ferrari and after a couple of weeks, when we were standing in front of them talking about rallies, bang! We had the idea... We did it because we are passionate about cars and good engineering.

“It took us 1500 hours to complete it and it was crazy! Just look at the pictures of the work in process and that will only give you a rough idea how many problems we faced. They will only show you 10% of our troubles!”

Hammock-style seats and dashmounted gearstick? Not in this 2CV!

So what’s been the reaction to the prancing tin snail? “Some people just don’t get it and they are not able to see the fine work that has gone into it. We have even kept changes to the Ferrari V8 to a minimum, such as the exhaust, and even the weight has been kept as close as possible to that of the Ferrari F355. So its performance should be similar...”

And now, what are you going to do with it? “Good question! Firstly, we haven’t really realised that it’s finished – so now, with the help of the summer, we are enjoying it today. Tomorrow? Who know? We are going to show it around, so that people who are passionate about this sort of work can appreciate it – and it has already work a special classic prize at Italy’s most important tuning show, the ‘My Special Car Show’ in Rimini. After that, we are thinking of selling it...”

Nervously, the next question has to be: how much? “You have to consider that we have spent more than €150,000 on it over the years and it would probably take someone crazier than ourselves to offer enough money.”

Given the sheer wonderfully bonkers nature of the Nimik 2CV, do you guys have any more ideas? “Unfortunately for our wives – yes! Take a look at our website because we have ideas for both land and water, but at the moment I cannot tell you anything more... Sorry!”
