As a relaxed high-speed mileage glutton, the XFR is up there with the best. It combines this with a sense of being stylish and markedly different from the Teutonic hordes.
The problems only start to arise when the XFR is pitched against other supersaloons, because that is when its light steering, comfortable ride and mute engine turn against it and give the driver a sense of being disconnected from the action.
These criticisms though, are but nothing compared to the intrusive nature of the XFR's traction control – Jaguar would do well to pick over the Lexus IS-F's excellent easy-to-use three-position system.
Yes, it's arguably the best Jag R yet, but we feel it could be even better with some of the heft and involvement you used to get in a MkII 3.8.
