THIS IS what happens when you put a 553bhp 2.7-litre turbocharged Volvo engine into a MkII Escort. An awesome looking Norwegian machine with tyre-squeal after every gearchange! Originally tuned to realise a truly scary 740bhp.
HAD THIS emailed over to me and it really is a stunning piece of film. Featuring Il Maestro, Fangio, hammering around Monte Carlo in a gorgeous Lancia Ferrari D50 grand prix car.
An extract from 'Fangio, A Life at 300km/hr' written and directed by Hugh Hudson in the early Seventies, it is very much a piece of its time. Packing both style and content, it tells the story of how Fangio sees motorsport – plus it shows us a classic GP car being driven as it was intended.
TAKE AN old Ian Brown track and some footage of a Cold War fighter, the utterly mighty English Electric Lightning, and you have something addictively retro cool. We need help because we really can't stop visiting www.sonicbomb.com
DURING ONE of those rambling pub chats, which went all around the houses and back again, the subject of Le Mans came up. Naturally, McQueen was mentioned but then the name Alexander Davidis cropped up and I'm ashamed to say I looked utterly blank.
Turns out that he is the chap behind the superb cult TV series 'GT Racer', and that his beautiful short about the first 2002 Le Mans Classic inspired 'GT Racer'. This is essential viewing for classic racing fans and we wish him all the best of luck. Further information is available at www.gtracertv.com
